Thursday, January 24th, 20081.1.2
Friday, November 9th, 2007Its out in all its unglory. It has no features at all that are worth mentioning, except it plugs the tiff exploit hole and disables all your apps again. Oh, but what’s this? Apparently, 1.1.2 was hacked before it was released.
In installer.app, check the recent packages, and you’ll find “OktoPrep.” This app will supposedly allow you to upgrade to 1.1.2 and keep everything it was at 1.1.1. Pretty fancy, but since this is so new, we would suggest holding off until its a proven method.
That being said, what does Apple need to do in order to make people update their Firmware who are reluctant because of a couple games? Right here: Flash. That is the “Killer App.”
Wanted: tool to sync third party mods
Thursday, September 20th, 2007Wouldn’t it be nice to have a tool that could package everything I’ve done on my iPhone, that isn’t part of the base build, and save it before I upgrade firmware? That way, I could do a “3p-synch”, upgrade the OS, and then drop my changes back on. Anyone seen this yet?
A few thoughts on iPhone apps for the iPod Touch
Thursday, September 13th, 2007The release of the iPhone has taught us that the icons on the screen in early promotional materials, isn’t necessarily the sum total of apps that the device will ship with. And let’s face it, the iPod touch’s screen looks pretty empty right now.
Looking at the iPhone - the difference in hardware is the phone and camera parts. So, SMS, Calendar, Photo library yes. Camera no. Youtube, Stocks, google maps, and weather? These will all work over Wi-Fi. Seems to be a natural. World clock, calculator, notes? No reason those shouldn’t work on the iPod Touch. Not sure they even need network.
If the file system and OS on the iPod Touch are constructed the same as the iPhone, and there’s no reason to expect otherwise, it should be as simple as making a copy of /Applications/YouTube.app from an iPhone, drop it on the iPod, and done. The limiting factor will be in who is first to release an ssh server and terminal application - I’m predicting this will happen in a matter of hours or less after the first units are in customer’s hands.
What do you want to see?
Saturday, September 8th, 2007What products or capabilities do you want to be able to add to your iPhone or iPod Touch? IM? Hardware add-ons like FM transmitters or external keyboards? Applications like Apache, a Wiki, or a blog? Games, games and more games? Shell and SSH server/access? All of these things are coming - tell us what you want to see, tell us what you’ve found, and tell us how you like it.
